UK CAA Medicals
and Common Casework

for pilots and UK cabin crew

Welcome to PilotMedicalsScotland.com

Dr. Malcolm Sim BSc (Hons), MBChB, MD, FRCP, FRCA, FFICM, EDIC

I am a Consultant in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia working at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where I lead the Critical Care research.

I learned to fly at Prestwick Flight Centre in a Cessna 152. I still very much enjoy taking to the skies in a Piper Cherokee Archer, although we are in the process of transitioning to an Arrow. I have my night rating and am working towards acquiring the IR(R). I was once lucky enough to have a trial flying a Jet Provost, which is certainly the fastest aircraft I have ever piloted!

In 2024 I completed a course in Aviation Medicine at King’s College London and subsequent training required by the CAA and am now an examiner for Class II and cabin crew medicals. I am aiming to add Class I privileges later this year.

DIGNITY

I strongly respect your right to dignity during medical examination.

Intimate examination (i.e. breast, testicular and rectal examination) is not part of aircrew medicals. A chaperone is always present for female medicals and can be arranged for male medicals – just ask! If you wish, you can download self-examination leaflets below.
